Rangiora Health Hub

Distance: 35 km, approximately 41 minutes from Christchurch

Rangiora is a primary maternity unit offering safe, supportive care for whānau choosing community-based birth. The unit encourages a collegial and supportive environment for midwives, with regular monthly staff meetings that LMCs are welcome to attend alongside core staff.

Facilities include:

  • 3 rooms for labour and birth (2 equipped with birthing pools)
  • 4 assessment rooms

  • 10 postnatal rooms

Midwifery Support:

  • There are always two experienced, supportive core midwives available to assist at births and provide second opinions if needed

  • During the day, the unit is supported by the charge midwife, receptionist, hospital aide, and kitchen staff

  • Home birth packs of linen can be picked up and returned for laundering (a cold rinse beforehand is appreciated)

  • Breast milk donations for the NICU milk bank can be dropped off at the Rangiora Health Hub for storage and transport

  • Breast pumps are available for hire by women

There will always be two experienced supportive core midwifes to assist at the birth or ask for a second opinion.

During the day there is also the charge midwife, receptionist,  hospital aide and kitchen staff.

Rangiora encourages a collegial supportive environment and has monthly staff meetings and encourages LMC’s to attend with core staff.

  • Emergency skills days
  • New graduate familiarisation days
  • There is the facility to pick up a home birth pack of linen and then drop off to be laundered.
    Although a rinse in a cold wash first would be appreciated.
  • If your women are donating breast milk to the NICU breast milk bank milk can be dropped of at Rangiora Health Hub where it will be stored and transported to NICU milk bank.
  • There are breast pumps available that can be hired by women.
